Line cutting robot (2007)
As part of an Independent Study at Duke, I conceptualized, designed, and built a robot that can automatically cut out shapes drawn by the user on a board, as demonstrated in the video below. I was inspired to build this because the DIY community is so creative in building things, but many people don't have the skills or resources to cut out large and odd shaped pieces. This robot would therefore enable people to create things that they otherwise couldn't. The robot is extremely user friendly since all you need to do is draw -- no need to learn CAD or even know how to use a computer.
